ESSENTIAL OILS

The information provided here gives you a sense of the qualities essential oils bring to our products.   All essential oils are divided in to ‘notes’ – top, middle and bottom and this is most relevant when oils are used in perfumery.  The top notes are the ones most immediately apparent, the middle note is the very heart of the fragrance and base notes give depth.  In all our products we use oils that blend well in terms of fragrance and, which offer skin care potential.

Bergamont

A top note essential oil with a fresh, citrus, spicy-floral scent.  Reputed qualities:  uplifting, calming, soothing, anti-depressant.  Bergamont also has healing and antiseptic qualities, it is very good for problem skin.

Black Pepper

A spicy, fresh, woody masculine base note.  Reputed qualities:  aphrodisiac, nerve tonic, antiseptic.  Black pepper aids aches, pains, and muscle soreness.

Cedarwood

A clean, woody, basalmic middle note.  Reputed qualities:  restorative, uplifting, warming, aphrodisiac.   A nice addition to products with a masculine fragrance.   NOT SUITABLE FOR USE IN PREGNANCY.

Chamomile

A refreshing, warm, sweet scent.   Reputed qualities:  restorative, claming, sedative, relaxing, comforting.  Low dosage use in products for children is very popular.  Very soothing for dry skin.

Cinnamon Leaf

A spicy, oriental, slightly wood middle to base note essential oil  Reputed qualities:  aphrodisiac, warming.  A pleasant addition in products with a more masculine aroma.  NOT SUITABLE FOR USE IN PREGNANCY

Clary Sage

A rich, sweet, nutty m idle note essential oil.  Reputed qualities:  aphrodisiac, relaxant, warming.   Helps to balance sebum production so a wonderful essential oil for bathing and skin care products.  NOT SUITABLE FOR USE IN PREGNANCY

Cyprus

A fresh, nutty, spicy base note essential oil.   Reputed qualities:  refreshing, relaxing, warming.  Wonderful addition to aftershave balms, good addition to soap for detoxification purposes.

Eucalyptus

A sharp, fresh, clean top note oil.   Reputed qualities:   refreshing, stimulating, antifungal, and antiseptic.  A good clean scent for soaps.   In skin care products it is good for problem skin.

Frankincense

Woody, sweet, base note.  Reputed qualities:  restorative, warming, sedative, revitalizing.  A luxurious essential oil suitable for all skin types but especially beneficial for mature skin.  Rejuvenates skin, encourages skin-cell production, soothing and  healing.

Geranium (Rose Geranium)

A floral, sweet, rosy middle note essential oil.   Reputed qualities:  soothing, uplifting, anti-depressant, balancing.  Widely used in perfume and skin care.  Soothes sore skin, improves circulation, helps balance sebum production.  Very similar to rose essential oil in smell.

Ginger

A spicy peppery, rich top to mid note essential oil.  Reputed qualities:  Aphrodisiac, warming, stimulating.  A popular addition to products aimed at the male marked and it is especially useful for its warming qualities in balms for muscle ache and pains and in snuffle balms for its cleansing and clearing properties.

Grapefruit

A fresh, sweet, citrus smelling top note essential oil.  Reputed qualities:  uplifting, cleansing, stimulant.  A useful addition to soaps for its clean, fresh smell and cleansing properties. 

Jasmine

A floral, rich, sweet smelling muddle to base note essential oil.  Reputed qualities:  aphrodisiac, warming, uplifting.  Very good for dry, sensitive skin.

Juniper

A sweet, fresh, woody middle note essential oil.  Reputed qualities:  aphrodisiac, cleansing, restorative.   Very useful ingredient in skin care products for its anti-inflammatory qualities, very good for problem skin.  NOT SUITABLE FOR USE IN PREGNANCY

Lavender

A fresh, light, sweet, floral top note.  Reputed qualities:  soothing, sedative, anti-depressant, calming, cleansing.  A perennial favourite, lavender is widely used in skin and bathing products for its soothing qualities and for its antiseptic qualities.    It is a vital ingredient in many of our products.

Lemon

A fresh, sweet, citrus smelling top note.   Reputed qualities:   refreshing, stimulating, antiseptic.  Works well in soap and skin care products for its cleansing and antiseptic properties.

Mandarin

A sweet, zesty, floral top note essential oil.  Reputed qualities:  soothing, uplifting, warming.  Works well in skin care and bathing products as it helps in the treatment of problem skin.

Marjoram

A warm, woody, spicy middle note essential oil.  Reputed qualities:  aphrodisiac, warming, comforting.  Its warming qualities make this essential oil a must in our muscle balm.  A nice addition to soaps with a more masculine fragrance.   NOT SUITABLE FOR USE IN PREGNANCY

Neroli

A sweet, delicate floral top to middle note essential oil.  Reputed qualities:  aphrodisiac, uplifting, anti-depressant.  A wonderful addition to skin care products as it helps to improve the elasticity of skin, stimulates cell renewal and regeneration.   A must in balms and butters that aim to improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and wrinkles.

Sweet Orange

A fresh, sweet, fruity, sensual top to middle note.  Reputed qualities:  refreshing, uplifting, warming, soothing.  Adds a citrus freshness to soaps, and is detoxifying and soothing to dry skin in soap and skin care products.

Palmarosa

A sweet, fresh, floral middle note essential oil.   Reputed qualities:  refreshing, anti-stress, calming, uplifting.   This essential oil has a similar fragrance to rose but is significantly less expensive and is widely used as a substitute to rose essential oil as it has many skin-aiding properties in its own right.   These therapeutic qualities include cell regeneration, regulation of sebum production, making this essential oil useful in products that aim to improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and wrinkles.

Patchouli

This base note essential oil has a strong,, spicy, woody aroma.  Reputed qualities:  stimulating, aphrodisiac, antifungal, antiseptic.  A great all-purpose skin care ingredient which renews and regenerates skin cells – a useful ingredient in balms and butters that aim to improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and wrinkles.

Peppermint

A fresh, minty top note essential oil.   Reputed qualities:  aphrodisiac, stimulant, restorative.   A refreshing essential oil in soaps and the perfect essential oil for our soothing and refreshing foot balm.  THIS ESSENTIAL OIL SHOULD BE AVOIDED IN THE FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF PREGNANCY

Petitgrain

A top to middle note essential oil with  a fresh, citrus and floral smell.   Reputed qualities:  soothing, calming, uplifting.  This essential oil is very healing for skin and aids the treatment of blocked pores.  A healing addition to bath and skin care products.

Rose

A floral, sweet middle note essential oil.   Reputed qualities:  aphrodisiac, anti-depressant, uplifting, soothing.   Rose essential oil is very good for mature skin and is a valuable ingredient to skin care products. THIS ESSENTIAL OIL SHOULD BE AVOIDED IN THE FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF PREGNANCY

Rosemary

A woody, basalmic, fresh top note essential oil.  Reputed qualities:  stimulant, refreshing restorative, purifying.   A pleasing addition to more masculine fragranced products and its antiseptic qualities make it a useful addition in soaps.   NOT SUITABLE FOR USE IN PREGNANCY

Sandalwood

Oriental, woody, rich base note essential oil.   Reputed qualities:   aphrodisiac, uplifting, sensual and warming.   Suitable for all skin types, sandalwood soothes dry skin and balances oily skin.  Particularly suited to masculine fragrances, soaps and post-shave face balms.

Tea Tree

A spicy, fresh middle note essential oil.    Reputed qualities:  medicinal, stimulating, refreshing.  The antiseptic qualities of tea tree make it a natural preservative and these qualities also make it a useful ingredient in soaps and balms.

Vetivert

A earthy, wood, masculine base note essential oil.  Reputed qualities:  sedative, soothing, calming, uplifting.  Known as the ‘oil of tranquillity’ because of its relaxing and soothing qualities, vetivert is a wonderful addition to soaps with a masculine blend of fragrances, good for troublesome skin, muscle aches and pains.

Ylang Ylang

A sweet, powerful, exotic top – middle – base note essential oil with a floral scent.  Reputed qualities:  soothing, calming, aphrodisiac, anti-depressant.  A lovely addition to soaps and skin care products, good for all skin types as it helps to balance the production of sebum.
